Working at Farview School

Wally washing down the windows...preparing to paint the outside of the building...it was filthy!

Brian V., Wally, Amanda and Tom

Always game for a photo op!

Christi and Wally painting...

Seth, Diana and Wally...hard at work!

The doors to the classroom were totally rotten and broken, so John and Tom cut down the new doors and then fit with locks and handles and hinges....

Good thing we had some tall people to reach the high spots...Wally and Seth

Abbi and Katy taking a break from painting to chat with their new friend...

These two girls, Nonitlahla and Nonolpha, 7th graders, became good friends with our girls...they followed them around all day...it was so neat to watch...

Here they are with Abbi and Katy....

John and Tom shaving the doors so that they open smoothly....
Andrian let us borrow some
power tools!!!!  Don't know what we would have done without them!

This was so cute...the kids flock around Wally as he chats with them....

The universal peace sign....

Always posing for the camera!

These kids had all finished their morning classes (from 8-10am) and were hanging out with us very interested in what we were doing...

They also played soccer and other games in the field by the school.

The girls all wanted pictures with their best buddies....

Brothers Pushing and Pulling...I kid you not, those were their English names.  They also had African names.  Most people here had both. Pulling said his mother named them that because she thought it was a balance...Pushing, then Pulling....ok then.  So, Pulling (left) was our contractor and his brother Pushing (right) was also a contractor but he was a contractor/minister....only in Africa is your minister also your contractor....these guys are awesome.  They are both from Lesotho (pronounced La-su-tu), a tiny country in the middle of S. Africa.  They leave their families for weeks at a time because there is no work there.  Pulling just beamed when he talked about his kids...he only gets to see them once a month when he's able to go home for a few days.  Dominique has talked about doing a school in Lesotho...would be great to see these two again!
A lady who worked at the school who was helping us...

These girls were great...they sang and danced to songs on their cell phones...the same songs our kids listen to at home (Beyonce, etc.).  They were posing for us.

Believe it or not, the girl in front on the right.....her name was also Cindy!!!! I about fell over when she told me that!  Just didn't know it was a popular African name (not sure how she spelled it, though).  There was a Gertrude, but she spelled it Getrode.   They acted just like our teens!

Stopping for photo op on the way home from working one day.

Wally and Christi trying to capture the landscape...

A small village at the base of the mountain....

So many flat topped hills....

Okay...time to load up and head back to the homestead for food and rest before another day of work....

Gorgeous African sunset on the way home...
